Oh yeah, definitely happy to see this proposal. I agree, XMPP is huge - we've been using it for years at work, integrating it into our Drupal offering, and have open sourced all of the code (available here: http://drupal.org/project/xmppframework).

I was thinking two session for this, one is an intro and one an intro for writing applications. I will prepare for both and then see what happens at barcamp! :)
