Description:

Tweet Corps: Guerrilla Goodness

Overview:  Traditional Tweet-ups bring human faces to the twitter community.  They allow us to go off-line and meet-up for drinks, lunch, or after-work activities.  We typically have a great time, we get to meet, greet and converse.  Along with these tweet-ups we have also started to promote and gather other people on twitter to support our causes (charities, grassroot efforts, etc).  Fortunately, our area has a wonderful and supportive community.  People gather around almost all causes and lend their support.  Additionally, we also have a strong support for *anything* Asheville [ahem: Beer City USA].

As wonderful as this sounds I foresee several challenges in the very near future (typical fundraiser challenges):

Capital

  • Venue Rental
  • Equipment Rentals
  • Donations
  • Sponsorships
  • Swag, etc.

Event Planning

  • Months + Weeks of Planning
  • Organization of Groups
  • Organizers/Volunteers
  • Venue Hunting,

The bigger the event the longer the list...

What I would like to discuss today is harnessing the community's love for causes and social media's love for face-to-face conversations.

How can we help our community and minimize the challenges?

Is it possible to give back more than money?

Let's discuss TweetCorps :)

My name is Jose Ibarra, I am the Web Manager/Owner at Applied Solutions Group, an information technology company in Asheville, I am also a co-Founder of TEDxAsheville, Twestival Global and Twestival Local Organizer...and I constantly get in trouble for giving away too much to charities.
