Calvin Webster

Normal by most standards, I am someone who enjoys technology and its enabling persona. Being from the generation that sort of grew up as the web was being woven, I've gotten into the habit of early adoption when it comes to webby stuff. It doesn't hurt that I also always had a computer around (TRS-80) and my dad worked on computers for a living, which was previously far and away from my intentions (having a career in IT).  Once shy and reserved, I've become more confident and focused largely because of the internet. It's powerful, isn't it?  I've forged new and lasting friendships and have learned enough probably for another degree...and all for free, sans the cost of a connection (In middle school I got into trouble for a $1000 phone charge to Raleigh, NC bc that was the closest connection for internet).

I really look forward to meeting everyone at our very first BarCampCHS, and maybe forging a new friendship in real life! 

So...my path has meandered quite a bit over the past 7 or so years since college...so below, I present to you my background:

I was previously an Environmental Educator on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where I taught children and adults the fascinations of our coastal environment. Currently, I am a Web Developer/Systems Analyst at Illumicom, LLC., where I do fun things on the web. I consider myself very passionate about environmental issues and learning new things that can help others communicate and understand. Some of my previous roles have included, technology coordinator, IT analyst, genetic engineer, Americorps VISTA Volunteer, grassroots organizer, and teacher.
